Introduction
The Southern Prevention Intervention Center of the African American Prevention Intervention Network (S-PIC/APIN) is an HIV/AIDS prevention training project for African-American-serving community-based organizations, health departments and health department-funded community-based organizations located in the southern region of the United States.

Funding
Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the S-PIC/APIN is a project of the Mississippi Urban Research Center at Jackson State University.

Courses/Trainings
S-PIC/APIN assists CBOs and health departments in their efforts to reduce HIV/AIDS in local African-American communities by offering capacity-building assistance (CBA) skills-building courses on research-based HIV/AIDS prevention interventions. Those courses include, but are not limited to: Behavioral Science, Facilitating Small Groups (Mwalimu), Focus Groups, Program Evaluation, Real AIDS Prevention Project (RAPP) [Master Trainers] and Sisters Informing Sisters about Topics on AIDS (SISTA) [Master Trainers] and Video Opportunities for Innovative Condom Education and Safer Sex (VOICES/VOCES).

Additionally, the S-PIC/APIN assists organizations through a variety of delivery mechanisms: information transfer, technical services, technical consultation and technology transfer.

Staff
Courses and other CBA services are provided by an experienced and highly skilled staff with expertise in many areas of HIV/AIDS prevention training. A communications and dissemination core provides graphics and editorial support. A quality assurance and evaluation team oversees and manages the project’s adherence to stringent standards.

Advisory Board
To ensure that the project effectively meets the needs of the community, input is received from members of a regional advisory board representing CBOs and health departments on a regular basis.
